Tiger Cub Parents Information Center
Your Tiger Cub will be a member of a den. Most dens have five to nine boy-adult partner teams, meet
twice a month in a den meeting, and have one field trip a month, called a Go See It. The den also takes
part in the monthly pack meetings.
For Tiger Cub Leaders and parents, the main tool you will use through the year is the Tiger Cub
Handbook. This will assist you in developing Den meetings, activities and Go-See-Its. A “Go-See-It” is
basically a field trip that includes interesting sites and usually a craft or activity mixed in. Some examples
of Go-See-Its are:
- Tour of a local restaurant
- Library
- Visit a TV or Radio station or newspaper offices
- Tour of local police or fire department
- Botanical Gardens
- Michigan Historical Museum
- Anyplace where the scouts can see and learn to help them complete their rank requirements and
just have fun!
Each den meeting and den activity is led by a den leader and an adult partner of one of the Tiger Cubs.
An adult partner can be a parent, relative, or friend who is at least 18 years old and who cares about the
boy. Each adult partner takes a turn working with the den leader to plan and lead a den meeting and/or
activity. (You'll read more about this shared leadership later.)
Your Tiger Cub is also a member of a Cub Scout Pack. Packs are made up of several dens that gather
monthly at a Pack Meeting. Pack meetings usually follow a suggested theme and are a time for boys to
be recognized for their accomplishments during the previous month to learn about new events, share
what they have accomplished in Den Meetings and to have fun with the entire family. Packs are led by a
Cubmaster, Assistant Cubmasters and a Parents Planning Committee. The Cubmaster for Pack 236 is
Brian Clement. Like the den leaders, the Cubmaster and assistants are volunteer leaders and are
usually family members of boys in the pack.
Parents Planning Committee - The Parents Planning Committee in Pack 236 is made up of parents who
organize almost all of the Pack events throughout the year. It is at these meetings that the budget is
reviewed, business items are discussed and decided upon to ensure the Pack operates smoothly. Also,
upcoming events and projects are discussed and voted on. Any parent can join the Parent Planning
Committee and take part in planning and or chairing an event. These meetings are held monthly on the
third Wednesday of the month at the South Lyon Methodist Church. Parents are strongly encouraged to
attend to take part in the Pack planning and organization process.
Most pack committees consist of family members and members of the pack's chartered organization.
The chartered organization is the community organization that is granted a charter by the Boy Scouts of
America to use the Scouting program. This chartered organization might be a school, service club,
religious group, or other group interested in youth. The chartered organization approves the leadership of
the pack, provides a meeting place, and operates the pack within the guidelines and policies of that
organization and the BSA. Since 1970, the chartered organization for Pack 236 in South Lyon has been
Sayre Elementary.
