Cub Scout Pack 236
Do Your Best
South Lyon, Michigan - Chartered by Sayre Elementary School

Pack 236 - Joining, Volunteering and Exploring
Cub Scout Packs are usually associated (or chartered) by an elementary school or church. Pack 236 is
chartered by Sayre Elementary. Currently, about 70 scouts are part of this pack. The pack is split into
Dens of about 6 to 8 scouts. Each Den will have a Den Leader and one or two Assistance Leaders. All
parents are encouraged to take an active role in Den activities including participating in the parents
Planning Meetings.
Parents Planning Committee - The Parents Planning Committee in Pack 236 is made up of parents who
organize almost all of the Pack events throughout the year. It is at these meetings that the budget is
reviewed, business items are discussed and decided upon to ensure the Pack operates smoothly. Also,
upcoming events and projects are discussed and voted on. Any parent can join the Parent Planning
Committee and take part in planning and or chairing an event. These meetings are held monthly on the
third Wednesday of the month at the South Lyon Methodist Church at 8:00 pm. Parents are strongly
encouraged to attend to take part in the Pack planning and organization process.
Joining Cub Scouts is very easy. Youngsters finishing kindergarten may join as early as May as a Tiger
Cub or in September. Joining in May allows them to get a head start in participating in summer activities
before the full year begins in September. Starting in September, the scouting year begins and continues
through June.
Pack 236 has a recruiting session for students at Sayre Elementary in September, followed later by an
information meeting with parents and their future scouts. Boys can join scouts at any level, they do not
have to start at Tiger Cub. If a 2nd grader decides to join, for example, he will join as a Wolf Scout. There
is a small registration fee when a scout joins.
When joining, all scouts are asked to participate in our annual fundraiser. The fundraiser for Pack 236 is
selling holiday wreaths, garlands and grave blankets. This is the only major fundraiser of the year that
scouts are required to participate in. Scouts are required to sell a minimum amount of products, or they
can opt to buy-out of the selling program by submitting a check to the Pack.
