Hike #5 - April 26, 2008 - 9:00 am
Site: Island Lake Recreation Area - Yellow Trail
Distance: Approx: 6 miles/2 hours
Map: Click here
Park website: http://www.michigandnr.com/parksandtrails/Details.aspx?id=462&type=SPRK
Hike Coordinator: Rich Perry
Meeting Place: Details for meeting place to be announced. The Yellow trail is a non-paved trail strictly for
hiking. With this being the first hike after the winter thaw, we will likely see more wildlife.
Uniform: Class B, but dress for weather
Directions: For those participating Saturday morning hike, please meet at the Yellow Loop Trail Head at
Island Lake Recreation Area. Enter the park from Kensington Road. Just past the Ranger station take a
right at the stop sign. You will need a State Park day pass or an annual pass to enter the park. Take that
winding road about 1.1 miles. Turn right at the Trail Head sign. Drive about .2 miles to the parking lot.
Turn left into the parking lot. Go to the very back of the parking lot where you will see signs for both the
Blue and Yellow Loop.
For all hikes, please be sure to bring water, snacks and any other items from the list on this page. We
will take breaks for water and to make some nature observations. Of course, we will follow Leave No
Trace ethics and this hike will count toward earning that achievement and of course add to miles
accumulated toward the Hiking Club hiking staff.
Hiking Coordinator
I am looking for Hiking Coordinators to plan hikes. The responsibilities would be to select a trail,
preferably one that we have not recently hiked. If you wish to be a Hiking Coordinator, please contact
Rich Perry at rich_perry2@yahoo.com.
